Nicklas Lidström, King of Hockeytown

Most of you know that David and I are both Blackhawks fans over here, but the greatness of Nicklas Lidström is undeniable. He’s been a top-notch defensemen in the NHL for almost as long as I’ve been alive. Four Stanley Cups, seven Norris trophies, a Conn Smythe trophy, voted into twelve All-Star games, a World Championship title, an Olympic gold medal and a member of the Triple Gold Club. Not to mention Lids has never missed the playoffs and captained the Red Wings for the last six seasons. His nickname, The Perfect Human, is well-earned, and I will miss him greatly next season, although maybe not as much when the Blackhawks play the Wings.

Nicklas Lidström, you have set the standard for this generation of hockey players and are the uncontested King of Hockeytown. Thank you for twenty years of devotion, heart and excellency.

The Red Wings have gotten such great value out of a player not even picked out of the top-15 it’s amazing. But it’s even more amazing that he was still playing major, top defenseman minutes on the wrong side of 40 last year. He is obviously a first ballot hall of famer and almost definitely a top-5 defenceman of all-time. I didn’t love the guy personally but it is no doubt the last we’ll see of one of the true class acts in NHL history. Also, you think you could check out my blog cuz I’d love to hear what you have to say http://chrisross91.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/put-your-tears-away/
